Across Essex Outdoors there is a wide selection of activities to participate in, and all activity sessions are delivered by our qualified and experienced instructors. Please find a selection of the activites below.


Archery:

archerAim for gold on our outdoor archery ranges. With its unique mix of fun and competition, this is a popular activity for all ages and abilities, with powerful benefits for the participants.

ARAerial Runway:

A fun personal challenge. Participants are connected to a wire 12 metres above the ground, before stepping out into thin air and embarking on a 100m descent. The experience will have you pleading for a second go!

BMX:

Our purpose built BMX track allows you to experience the thrill of the jumps, twist and turns usually reserved for professional riders, under the watchful eye of our instructors. Winding 250 metres through natural woodland, you must keep your nerve as banks, lips and jumps appear around each bend; alternatively the track can be used to practice your skills before progressing to mountain biking.  Available at: Danbury

Bumble:

This unique activity is a great way of building confidence in and around water. It involves sliding on weirs, playing team games in the river, jumping from the river bank, river crossings and bridge jumping.

Canoeing:

Essex provides an ideal environment to take your first paddle strokes in this wonderul sport, or refine your technique as you work towards a British Canoe Union (BCU) award.

Test your nerve as you take on the underground challenge of the Letterbox, the Washing Machine and the Corkscrew, all under the guidance of our trained and qualified instructors.

Climbing: Wall

Climbing is a physical and intense experience unrivalled by other sports. Our climbing complexes provide a purpose built environment in which our instructors can teach you basic climbing techniques and introduce you to essential climbing equipment. We are also within driving distance of the sandstone outcrop in Kent, allowing staff to provide progression from the climbing wall to real rock.

At Essex Outdoors we provide a wide range of environmental programmes, from 'Wild & Crafty' taster days through to full Forest School programs.

Gorge Walking:

Scramble, jump, slide and abseil your way across rocks, rivers and waterfalls in this non-stop high-adrenaline activity.

Our centres offer various high ropes courses, with elements such as Vines,  Jacob’s Ladder and the Trapeze!

High Ropes  - Tree Tops:

This course is for those looking for the big challenge! The course consists of bridges, tight-ropes and other challenges suspended 30ft above the forest floor.

Kayaking:kayak

Our BCU qualified staff will guide you through all the basic strokes and allow plenty of time to practice your technique, before giving you the opportunity to explote the waterways and get up close and personal with some fascinating wildlife!

Low Ropes:

Low ropes is an excellent tool for developing participation, communication and other team skills. The course consists of a series of wires and ropes suspended between stations. Participants are totally reliant on each other to complete the various challenges that the course poses.

Mountain Boards:

Mountain boarding is an exciting new sport, combining the skills of snow boarding and skateboarding. This activity is great for developing balance and coordination skills.

ObstacleObstacle Course:

The perfect environment for group work, team building, or just a bit if fun. Our purpose built obstacle courses will test your ability to work with friends and colleagues, make decisions, and handover trust in a safe but challenging environment.

Off Road Biking:

MTBOur centres are perfectly situated to cater for all levels of mountain biking, and our sites present plenty of challenges, from gentle woodland trails through to more technical routes. And our proximity to some of the best single- track in the country allows us to stretch you even further.

Orienteering:

This activity teaches the important life skill of map-reading. After thorough tuition in the basics,  including orientating the map, symbols, and scale, participants can head off to complete a variety of courses. For the more experienced, this can include orienteering by  mountain bike and canoe.

Essex Outdoors provides a superb environment in which to develop your powerboat skills at all levels.

Problem Solving:

Spider’s web, mazes, blindfold trails and sheep pens are just some of the tools used to test your problem solving skills! Ranging from mental puzzles through to team challenges, we’ll test your ability to work together, communicate and think fast.

Sailing:

picoFrom dinghies to yachts, our dedicated sailing centre at Bradwell offers a comprehensive range of of RYA courses to help you learn to sail or develop exisitng skills. 
Our Sigma 33 offshore yacht Brigantes is also availablefor offshore sailing for up to five persons.

Sea Kayaking:sea kayak

Our qualified and experienced kayak coaches can offer a range of sea kayak experiences, from novice to advanced level. Choose from half-day introductory sessions, to full-day trips using the local coastline and estuaries, including open crossings between Mersea and Bradwell. Alternatively opt for a trip around Mersea Island, spending the night on East Mersea stone; or an exploration of the Walton Backwaters, including a circumnavigation of Horsey Island, with the option of an overnight camp! Multi-day trips along other parts of the UK coastline are also available.
