Essex Outdoors are launching their apprenticeship programme on 1st March 2010 for young people aged 16 and over who are not currently in employment, education or training.
This is an exciting opportunity for a paid apprenticeship in the outdoor industry! Successful candidates will work for a year alongside our professional team, learning the trade and what it means to be an outdoor instructor.
There will be 10 vacancies across Essex, based at our Danbury Centre for Outdoor Learning. However, Essex Outdoors has five centres across Essex as well as a mountain centre in Wales, and we deliver a wide range of exciting outdoor activities. You may find yourself sailing at our coastal centre, climbing at 1000m2 indoor wall, or working with our staff in the mountains of Wales!
Throughout the programme you will also attend technical training courses, and be invited along on our outdoor experiential courses. Our partners at Catten College will also provide academic input to the programme, delivering Functional Skills NVQ Level 2 and other industry technical certification
Successful candidates will work 37 hours per week, from Monday to Friday, although there may be exceptions to this. Employees may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends, and there may also be opportunities to work in other parts of the UK, and abroad.
Successful candidates will:
· Experience the range of activities offered by Essex Outdoors across a range of centres
· Work in and with a diverse range of environments and staff
· Gain qualifications in outdoor skills
· Become a valued member of our work force
· Earn up to £95 per week
You will need to be:
· Able to build relationships with teenagers
· Have an interest in teaching in the outdoors
· Able to work as part of a team
· Have excellent communication skills
· Be willing to work towards a NVQ level 2 in Activity Leadership
