Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some of the most frequently asked questions by group leaders visiting Mersea

Q. Can we self cater and bring our own tents??
A. Self contained groups providing their own food and equipment e.g. those completing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award are welcome on the site at the jurisdiction of the Manager. (Category B)

Q. Can you provide food and accommodation?
A. We can provide a fully catered for option, with camping in tents, mattresses and groundsheets for up to 300 people and meals provided by our staff in the dining rooms. Cabin accommodation is also available for up to 104 people. (Category C)

Q. How big are the tents? How many people do they sleep?
A. There are two types of tents:
     14' x 14' - sleep eight young people
     10' x 8' – sleep two staff

Q. Do we have to put up our own tents?
A. Yes. Should tents remain up from previous camps, where possible we will utilise these so that you will not have so many to erect.

Q. Do you provide sleeping bags?
A. No - you need to provide your own bedding in the tent and the cabins.

Q. What time do we have to be out of our accommodation?
A. Groups are asked to vacate their accommodation by 1.00pm on the day of departure. Arrangements for storage of luggage can be made with the Duty Site Supervisor.

Q. What personal equipment should I bring?
A. Clients are expected to bring adequate personal clothing, including hats, gloves, boots and waterproofs.

Q. What about insurance?
A. The County Council carries third party liability. Any additional cover should be arranged by yourselves. Risk assessments and codes of practice are held in our office and copies are available if required

Q. Can we bring our own Instructor?
A. Only for the Swimming Pool. He or she will have to produce proof of qualification on booking and attend an onsite induction by arrangement with the Senior Instructor.

Q. How do we pay?
A. By Internal Transfer for County groups, otherwise by cash, cheque or we can invoice you.

Q. Can I bring my dog with me?
A. Sorry - No.
