Potty About Plants

This course provides outdoor practical experiences to explore the wide variety of plant life found on our nature reserves. Activities provide learning opportunities to address the science at the key stage one programme of study and include links to other areas of the curriculum.

 

Course Content:

  • Different sizes, shapes and varieties of plants.
  • Different plants grow in different places. 
  • The parts of a plant and how they help it grow.
  • Plants need light and water.
  • Plants are important to animals and us.
  • Plants are special and important to our world.

Activities:

  • Observing and drawing a variety of plants.
  • Comparing and recording plants in woodland and meadow.
  • Natural materials art.
  • Investigating trees and water.
  • The relationship between leaf size and light.
  • Observing honey bees (Daws Hall only) and discovering animals that live in the meadow.
  • Using our senses to find out about plant growth.

Duration:
This can be a half day or full day unit and can take place throughout the year. April to September offers opportunities to use flowering plants in the meadow.
