Sea Kayaking

Our Mersea Centre for Outdoor Learning offers a range of sea kayak experiences, from novice to advanced level. Choose from half-day introductory sessions, to full-day trips using the local coastline and estuaries, including open crossings between Mersea and Bradwell. Alternatively opt for a trip around Mersea Island, spending the night on East Mersea stone; or an exploration of the Walton Backwaters, including a circumnavigation of Horsey Island, with the option of an overnight camp! Multi-day trips along other parts of the UK coastline are also available.

Half day taster session
Learn some basic skills and enjoy your first sea kayak experience on the Blackwater Estuary
Age: 16+
Price: £30 per person
Group size: minimum 6. maximum 10
Date: 18th April 2010 am or pm

Introduction to Sea kayaking – (Full day)
Including an introduction to navigation, the kayaks, clothing and equipment. Learn all the basic skills then paddle to the open sea, stopping on a beach or island for lunch.
Age: 16+
Price: £60 per person
Group size: minimum 6. maximum 10

Day Trips - extend your horizons
Using various parts of the coastline, backwaters and estuaries between Maldon and Orford. Suitable for those who have completed the introduction to sea kayaking or taster day or who have previous kayaking experience.
Age: 16+
Price: £60 per person
Group size: minimum 6. maximum 10
Dates: 21st August, 26th September

Mersea Island Circumnavigation
Complete a memorable journey around Mersea Island, including an overnight wild camp. Suitable for those who have completed the taster day or the introduction to sea kayaking or those with previous experience.
Age: 16+
Price: £55 per person
Group size: minimum 6. maximum 8
Date: 9th May

1½ day trip around Walton Backwaters
Navigate around the Walton Backwaters, Hamford Water and the Walton Coastline plus a circumnavigation of Horsey Island and visit to a seal colony. Includes use of car park, hot showers and changing room.
Age: 16+
Price: £85 per person
Group size: minimum 6. maximum 8
